Your Questions, Answered
What exactly is the Riviera Maya?
The Riviera Maya is the Caribbean coastline of Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula, running approximately 130 kilometres from Cancún in the north to Tulum in the south. It takes in Cancún's Hotel Zone, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Akumal, Soliman Bay, and Tankah Bay before reaching Tulum. Each has its own character. Our collection spans the length of it — one concierge handles whichever base you choose.....
Which airport should we use?
Cancún International (CUN) is the gateway for the entire coastline — direct flights from most major US, Canadian, and European cities. From CUN: Cancún's Hotel Zone is 20 minutes, Playa del Carmen is around 50, Tulum is roughly two hours. Tulum's own airport (TQO) operates with limited international routes and suits guests staying in southern Tulum specifically. Our concierge coordinates transfers from either airport as standard.
How do I choose between Cancún, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum?
The honest answer: they are not interchangeable. Cancún delivers the most direct Caribbean beach access, the best large-group infrastructure, and the easiest logistics. Playa del Carmen and the mid-corridor — Puerto Morelos, Akumal — offer a quieter coastline with reef access and a more genuinely Mexican town life nearby. Tulum is design-conscious, slower, and further from everything — including the airport. Tell us who is traveling and what matters most. We will tell you where to be.
What is the best time of year to visit the Riviera Maya?
December through April is the dry season — low humidity, consistent sunshine, and the clearest water of the year. Christmas and Easter command peak rates across the board. November and May are the insider's months: the crowds have cleared, prices have dropped, and the coast is at its most relaxed. June through October is hurricane season. Travel remains possible — September in particular can be excellent between weather systems — but honest planning is required. We track conditions and advise accordingly.
What about sargassum seaweed?
It is a real consideration between May and September, and it varies significantly by location and year. The southern corridor — Soliman Bay, Tankah, Tulum — is generally less affected than the Hotel Zone. We monitor conditions actively and factor beach quality into every recommendation we make during those months.
Can you accommodate large groups across the Riviera Maya?
Yes — at both ends of the coast and everywhere between. Homes in our collection sleep between eight and 36 guests, with the staffing, kitchen infrastructure, and event logistics to match. Whether the group is in Cancún for a milestone birthday or Tulum for a private retreat, our concierge coordinates everything from arrival to departure.
Are there villas suitable for families with children?
Several, and the right choice depends on where you are. Lagoon-side homes in Cancún offer calm, shallow water. Akumal Bay is gentle enough for snorkelling from the shore. Soliman Bay is one of the best protected stretches of Caribbean coast on the Riviera Maya. Our concierge arranges child-friendly equipment, babysitters, and age-appropriate excursions — cenotes, Cobá, Isla Mujeres by ferry.
